Iconic Reggae musicians Bob Marley and The Wailers collaborate with Nigerian superstar, Rema and. Jamaican music-royalty, Skip Marley, to remake ‘Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)’. Produced by GA, this collaboration injects a burst of Afrobeats richness into a cross-generational classic.
‘Them Belly Full’ is a mid-tempo number laced with soothing sax, capturing cadence and punchy parables. Addressing inequality, Bob Marley, Rema and Skip Marley encourage to us to escape with music. The original track features on Bob Marley’s widely acclaimed 1974 album ‘Natty Dread’, his seventh studio album. In 2003, this project was ranked amongst the Top 200 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone.
Bob Marley is one of the most legendary figures in modern music; his influence is immeasurable. The Jamaican singer, musician, and songwriter inspires with social activism and politically conscious lyrics fused with elements of lovers-rock, ska, and rocksteady. As a pioneer of Reggae, Bob Marley was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Grammy nominated, Skip Marley comes from a long lineage of superstardom. The self-taught musician and model has collaborated with artists such as Katy Perry, HER, Rick Ross, Ari Lennox and Popcaan. Known for speaking to a generation whilst topping the Billboard charts, the singer made these remarks on remaking his grandfather’s hit: “When I first heard the final version of ‘Them Belly Full’ featuring Rema, I was ecstatic! Working alongside any African artist is ecstatic for me, because that’s what it’s really about: Africa. I was very grateful for the opportunity”.
In 2022, British GQ crowned Rema as the 'new poster child of Afrobeats’. The 23 year-old singer, songwriter and rapper has been nominated for the 2020 BET Best Viewers Choice: International Act and the 2020 MTV Europe Music Award: Best African Act. Rema currently has the most monthly listeners of any Afrobeats artist on Spotify, and his single 'Calm Down (Remix)’, which features Selena Gomez, is the most streamed Afrobeats song of all time.
‘Them Belly Full’ precedes Bob Marley’s forthcoming 10-track album, ’Africa Unite’ (due for release on 4 August 2023). It is the fourth single released from this majestic, posthumous project which pays homage the Reggae icon's greatest hits, beautifully reimagined and infused with the infectious rhythms of Afrobeats..
