MUSIC makes the world go round, has the ability to shake things up and get us in the right into the groove of things. Once such fit that fits the above description is newest girl group to emerge in Mzansi, Group Chat.
The exciting trio consists of Mbali, Ney and Nolo whose stars aligned birthing the hottest thing to take our music to the next level and hail from Johannesburg, South Africa.
The rising stars who are making their mark through Amapiano and Kwaito are just what the music doctor ordered. Group Chat’s journey is one of what talent and right timing when merged together can
produce.
They were discovered in August 2022 after being individually unearthed by independent label, The African Gong Group, and theirs is an open book waiting for their pages to be filled up.
Group Chat has all the right flavours including voices, dance moves and the right attitude.
Born Mbali Louryn Brown (20) she was the first to be spotted and was hand-picked by the label as the first piece of the puzzle. The BA in Media and Psychology third year student who describes herself as passionate and spiritual is on her way to bagging her degree through the University Of Witwatersrand.
“I began singing at the age of 8 while I was in church, this is a calling for me. My mother was my biggest inspiration support structure. Being part of Group Chat has been one of my dreams and I am grateful that I was given this opportunity,” - Mbali Ney whose real name is Sinentlahla Sotshongani bagged her spot through the onlineauditions has her eyes set on becoming a Marketing guru when she is off the stage.
The 22-year-old is completing a learnership programme but her new course has been set and she will be sailing into the stage and lights. She did not know that submitting her audition tape would land her a spot in the group.
Ney who regards herself as futuristic has her eyes set on showing SA what she is made of, “I have always been the music guru in my circle and now I get to explore that side of me while doing what I was born to. I am grateful that I took a leap of
faith and now is the beginning of the rest of my life.”
The third and last fit is Mmalehlohonolo Mokoena (21) also known as Nolo who was also picked through the online auditions. The Rosebank College who is currently studying towards obtaining her Human Resource Management accreditation could not attend the physical auditions due to financial constraints.
However she was destined to be part of Group Chat as she made it through to the trio, she said: “ I love signing with every fibre in me, my voice is meant to touch souls and heal people. I am going to use this opportunity as I believe I have been preparing for it. I will continue to focus on my school work during the weekdays and
while spending my weekends on studio time and rehearsals.”
Since being formed, Group Chat has been hard at work finding their feet through studio time and rehearsing to put together this master piece. Their labour of love has produced their first single titled, Jaiva.
True to the amapiano and kwaito genres the up-tempo dance song with catchy lyrics is set to turn up the heat across dance floors. One thing is certain and it is the three girls from different back rounds are talented and their cross roads have led them to this very
