Afro-Pop Prince Oxlade ushers in Spring with his brand-new single, ‘Want You’. As his first release of 2022, the multiple award nominee serenades us with a fun and flirty love letter. The Nigerian chart-topper partners with A-list producer TMXO (Wizkid/Angelique Kidjo/Burna Boy/Machel Montano/Adekunle Gold/BNXN/Reminisce/WURLD) to deliver sweet harmonies layered on rhythmic percussion sprinkled with sprightly guitar lines and a soothing bass. With vocals laid by World-Class Spax Classic (Wizkid/Tekno/ Flavour/Tems/Show Dem Camp/Falz), Oxlade’s signature falsetto and ad-libs shine through on this romantic track.
When speaking on the creation of ’Want You’, the Lagos-native said: “I want everyone to feel what I felt when making this song! The words magically appeared to me as soon as I heard the beat”. We can all relate to lyrics like “I’ll do anything for you” and “Our love is too strong”.
‘Want You’ is the first single from Oxlade since partnering with Epic Records France and Columbia UK. He’s come a long way from bursting onto the scene in 2018 with his break-out hit “Shugar”. In 2019, Oxlade supported Wizkid at the prestigious 02 Arena; performing in front of 20,000 people. The following year, he was nominated for Nigeria’s most sought-after music accolade: The Headies’ Next Rated Award. 2020 also saw Oxlade’s single “Away” being crowned by Rolling Stone as one of Top 50 Songs of the Year. 2021 proved that the crooner is a fan favourite with regular entries in the Top 10 such as “Kolo” by Ice Prince ft Oxlade, “All My Life” by MI Abaga ft Oxlade and “Non Living Thing” by Sarkodie ft Oxlade.
