Manchester’s finest lyricist - Mastermind brings new heat with brand new single ‘Crash It’ featuring North London’s Mobo Award winning artist Abra Cadabra. With production shared between Croydon-based beat maker - JB Made It (Drake, Skengdo & AM) and One Take Jake, the track is live across all digital streaming platforms via Pitched Up/Columbia Records after premiering as DJ Target’s Embargo on BBC Radio 1Xtra. The accompanying video which premiered on GRM is directed by Kevin Hudson and features the two talents lyrically sparring with each other.
Nominated for a GRM RATED award for Breakthrough Artist Of The Year 2020, he says, “lockdown has been difficult, but it was the break I needed, it’s made me focus on creating more music. The song idea was something I had created whilst in lockdown and the person I felt was perfect to add a verse was Abra. Once we finished, we decided the concept and shot the video in London.”
Coming from a rich tapestry of northern rap and R&B talent, Mastermind can be counted in the wave of British voices with unashamedly British accents. Raised in Rusholme as one of eight children born to his dad, originally from Somaliland, and his mum, a Mancunian of Welsh and Yemini heritage, he has been releasing music independently since 2015. With a growing fanbase in Canada thanks to a 2016 collaboration ‘Hungry’ with Toronto rapper Robin Banks, Mastermind is looking forward to spreading his homegrown made-in-Manchester sound push further all around the globe.
