DAECOLM is the hot new UK talent and name soon to be on everyone’s lips as he stakes his claim on the music scene with the launch of his debut single, the energetic ‘Jungle’. Written by Daecolm with the London based producer Detonate, who produced the track, ‘Jungle’ is the perfect introduction to his unique brand of textured R&B, soul and pop sounds.
Explaining the meaning of the track, Daecolm says: “For me, ‘Jungle is a metaphorical representation of what life is like for someone working to make their mark in a certain area of life which could mean different things to different people but for me it’s about being an up and coming artist and how I’m navigating that. Looking at the traits of the kings of the jungle, where the lion is the top of the food chain it is eat or be eaten, you are either the prey or the predator. So it’s about going for what you want and giving it your all but doing it humbly at the same time.”
Born in Zimbabwe and raised in London, Daecolm spent some of his teens in New Zealand. Daecolm credits his father as his main inspiration for getting into music, with the two recording together and singing at family events. His passion for music was enhanced by being introduced to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, Blackstreet, The Bee Gees, The Temptations and culturally rich music like Lady Smith Black Mambazo, all of which to this day influence the material he creates during his back to back studio sessions. Daecolm’s first experience as an artist was releasing a self-written and produced single in New Zealand at 16 which went to number one in the charts. As a producer, Daecolm has collaborated with the likes of Labrinth, Craig David, Yungen, Krept & Konan, Chris Brown and Desiigner and is one of the Executive Producers on Elijah Blake’s forthcoming album. Last year he featured on Brunelle’s track ‘Let Me Love You’ and he also features on French producer and artist Feder’s brand new single ‘Back For More’
With these credentials already under his belt and recently showcasing his incredible vocal on a stripped back cover of NEIKED’s hit song ‘Sexual’ (watch here) which has amassed over 200,000 streams, Daecolm is on a one-way track towards dominating the music scene.
