With support across Africa coming from the likes of Cool FM, Radio Continental, Pulse NG, 360 Nobs, The Guardian and Tayo TV among others, UK-based Afropop princess Waliyah is back and proud to debut her brand new single ‘Rumour Has It’, which received its UK nationwide premiere on Capital Xtra. Already taking over the radio airwaves and club playlists in Nigeria, Waliyah is excited to bring ‘Rumour Has It’ to her UK Afrobeats audiences.
Counting the likes of Grammy Award winner Quincy Jones and Charlie Sloth (BBC Radio 1) as long-time fans, Waliyah has been making music for nearly a decade. She wrote and performed the BBC-supported song for the 2012 Olympics ‘It’s Time’, and has collaborated with international hitmakers such as Grammy Award winner Patrick Leonard, David Brant and Mike Koch.
In the African music landscape, Waliyah has worked with Sarz, Tee Y Mix, Legendury Beatz and Samklef among others, supporting the likes of 2Face, Tiwa Savage, Davido and D’Banj on tour, and has been championed by MTV Africa, Soundcity TV, 1 Music Networks,Beat FM, Not Just OK and Bella Naija among others, with previous singles ‘Ejekajo’ and ‘Siwaju’ leaving a huge mark on the Nigerian music scene and putting Waliyah firmly on the map.
For her new single ‘Rumour Has It’, Waliyah collaborates with burgeoning producer TK, who has worked with the likes of Banky W, Niyola and Chidinma, and songwriter/artist Maytronomy, whose collaborations include M.I, Jesse Jagz, and D’Tunes, to deliver what is by far her best and most forward-thinking record to date. With its infectious lyrics, chorus and melody, South African dance music and Afrobeats sensibilities, ‘Rumour Has It’ is a captivating Afropop masterpiece.
