How was your week?! I hope it was all that you wanted it to be and if it wasn't, that you tried to make the best out of the situation you faced. I wish you better times ahead with whatever situation you may be facing; and if things are all good, then even more good times ahead!
On my end, I had a solid week on the business front, and also presented a business law seminar to entrepreneurs in my neck of the woods. The seminar was scheduled for two hours, but my attendees were so engaged they kept me for an extra hour with numerous questions on the topic they wanted answered! I am grateful I was able to connect with them in such way.
Okay. Now let's get into it! In case you haven't had the chance to check out the latest stories on AML, here are some important ones not to be missed when you do. They are:
1. M.I Abaga v. Kemi Adetiba: Both MI & Adetiba are leading personalities in Nigeria & Africa's entertainment industries. Adetiba is actually a music video director out of New York & Nigeria. MI is a top hip-hop artist who has been dubbed a contemporary "rap legend" on the continent. He is also a 2010 BET Awards nominee.
M.I initially retained Adetiba's services to produce his latest music video. He granted interviews and spoke publicly about working with her. The video was recently released and it turns out her credits are nowhere to be found. Well what happened? Click the highlighted link above to find out and also get my take on the alleged dispute.
2. Death Hoax Gone Very Wrong in the case of Linda Ikeji v. Skiibii: Linda Ikeji is a Nigerian Celebrity Blogger best compared to the likes of America's Perez Hilton. Her reach is actually across the continent of Africa and in the diaspora, with millions of page views a day. Her blog also grosses over a million US dollar in revenue, per year.
An emerging artist called Skiibii, who is signed to a very popular artist-entrepreneur's label in Nigeria, collapsed. Linda Ikeji received news of his collapse. She reported the story to her audience and also reported the artist was dead. Well, it turns out the artist actually wasn't dead. What she did next, when she was informed the artist wasn't dead, made the story go viral and become one of the most controversial stories, so far this year, in Nigeria's entertainment industry. Get my take on it when you click on the highlighted link above.
3. 'Classic Man' Jidenna & Janelle Monae Appear on Hot 97. Jidenna address the Nigerian Controversy that Got him in Trouble with Fans: Jidenna is burning up the charts with his hit single 'Classic Man.' Right here in the States and on the Continent of Africa, the song is on heavy rotation on radio. However, last month, Jidenna seemed to put his foot in his mouth when he talked about needing 'Ak47s' to go bury his father in Nigeria on VLAD TV. Many Nigerian fans were unhappy about it and let him have it. Their strong voices and power made even mainstream music media and blogs in the States take notice. Jidenna has since made amends but he gave even more specifics and clarity on where he was coming from on his very recent appearance on New York's Hot 97.
That's it from me. So, are we on next week? :) If yes, then I'll definitely catch you all for sure with more legal drama, music business and industry news.
In the meantime, have a very blessed and fantastic weekend ahead.
You worked hard, so you absolutely have my permission to ease into the weekend, starting right now, and enjoy yourselves.
Cheers,
~Ms. Uduak
