Disney World is the latest venue to ban selfie sticks amid safety concerns. The mobile accessories – which let you take a selfie by clipping your phone in and holding it out – are already barred from Wimbledon, various football clubs and music festivals.
Guests at Disney theme parks in Orlando, California, Hong Kong and Paris will be asked to turn in their selfie sticks during bag checks. Want to hang onto it? You'll be refused entry.
The problem is that customers keep whipping out their selfie sticks for a quick snap during rides. This is obviously a safety issue, as they could get caught in the rides' workings.
Disney previously allowed selfie sticks as long as patrons didn't use them on rides. But it seems there was no way to enforce that ruling without banning them altogether.
"We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast," Disney World spokesperson Kim Prunty told the Orlando Sentinel.
With the accessories being banned from all sorts of venues, will it be long before they're outlawed altogether?
