PHOTO: JAY Z ANNOUNCES VIC MENSA SIGNS TO ROC NATION

Rumors have been flying about whether or not the budding Chicago talent, Vic Mensa, had inked a deal or not. Mensa popped up on the mainstream radar with a feature on Kanye West’s “Wolves.” Today, Jay Z has confirmed the rumor to be true, with a tweet, stating Vic Mensa is the latest signee to Roc Nation.

The story behind Mensa’s signing: Roc Nation music executive Lenny S. shared – with The FADER – how he locked down Vic Mensa through using his Instagram and the hurdles he went through to make the signing happen. “They cared about making a connection w/ music/culture & partnering with a company who understood their vision/art. Same thing Roc believes in,” he said. “We shook on it. Last piece of the puzzle: Meet w/ Chaka & J. My 20m meeting lasted 3hrs. We talked bout art/icons/rock/HipHop etc & decided our new business partners were SAVEMONEY! 1 of my most proud signings! VIC MENSA!!”

Vic recently released his Yeezy-featured single “U Mad,” produced by Smoko Ono, Kanye West, Mike Dean, and Stefan Ponce -available on iTunes, Amazon, TIDAL, Google and Spotify.
