MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -
Memphis police are searching for the person who tried to break into a home near Horn Lake Road. The victim fought back, cutting the intruder in the head with a machete.
Police were called to the 5000 block of Horn Lake Road just after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, Cheryl Nibley said someone was trying to break into her home.
"I grabbed the machete and my phone and I got out of my bedroom," Nibley explained. "Then I heard a rip in my screen, so I raised up and I got my phone and I called 911. And I was telling her that someone was breaking in the house right then."
Nibley says she heard the intruder push her bed away from the wall. That's when she ran into the bedroom, armed with her machete.
"When I saw the top of the head come through [the window] and I got in there and started chopping with my machete and I chopped him on the head. He jumped back out the window, and he ran around the corner to the neighborhood," she said. "And I didn't have on any clothes, so I ran out the house kind of naked, and I thought about it and I ran back in house and put some clothes on. Then I ran back out the house to go chase him, and that's when the police showed up."
