GADGET: Add some bling to your living room: Swarovski and LG unleash crystal-covered curved OLED TV!

Crystals aren’t necessarily the first thing we’d think of when kitting out our ideal TV, but that’s exactly what you’ll get from the new partnership between LG and Swarovski: a curvedOLED HD TV that’s clad in sparkly stones. Fancy one of these, or would it be a little bit distracting whilst watching your favourite flicks?

The unique creation was put together by Austrian jewellery company Swarovski and LG for this year’s IFA tech expo, although whether the sparkly stones take anything away from the viewing experience remains to be seen. As for the crystals themselves LG explains that around 460 Aurora Borealis crystals were applied by hand to the TV, using specially made stencils. The manufacturer claims the result is a work of art – we’ll leave the verdict up to you!

There’s a lot else on OFFER from the TV besides the magpie-pleasing sparkly finish, including a curved panel, a depth of 4mm and a weight of just 16kg. Granted, the last feature isn’t something that’ll make a difference on a daily basis, but it’ll certainly come in handy when shifting it into your living room!

Think the crystal-covered wonder would look perfectly at home among your possessions? It may currently be a one-off, but LG explains it will be available as a limited edition towards the end of the year. There’s currently no word on pricing though: but expect the bling-boasting telly to put a dent in your wallet.

LG’s TV is not the only sparkly gadget on show at IFA either, as its South Koreanneighbour SAMSUNG is also working with Swarovski to develop the eye-catching crystal-covered Samsung Gear S Strap. It’ll certainly help your Gear S stand out from the crowd, although whether people will admire or mock it remains to be seen. If you fancy adding a touch of bling to your smartwatch-equipped wrist, the limited edition strap will hit SAMSUNG’s online store from October, but again, there’s no price revealed just yet. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the latest as soon as we hear it.
