There’s nothing better than going for a dip when you’re on holiday or on a scorching hot daylike today, but it’s equally frustrating having to carry a change of clothes around, along with one of those wafer thin travel towels that never really do the job. But an innovative Canadian inventor could have the ideal solution, in the form of a brilliant pair of water-repellent shorts that refuse to get wet!
Imagine it – going for a swim, doing a few lengths and then walking or driving back to the hotel to use your own shower, rather than having to put up with the feeble public offeringsat the beach or swimming pool.
Sure, it’s already possible, but you’ll either have to trudge back in wet shorts, end up with a damp car seat, or get changed before you shower. Which is why entrepreneur Frank Shaw has created a new range of swimming shorts that do the seemingly impossible, staying dry while you swim.
Frank explains: “I wanted to create a garment that could transition from a day at the beach, to a workout at the gym and a night on the town all without having to change.”
In order to stay dry, the shorts have been constructed out of hydrophobic nanotechnologyfabric, and it’s been a long hard road for Shaw. Initial prototypes were sprayed with water-repellent material, but although it kept the shorts dry, it also made them rigid enough to stand up on their own. Not ideal for vigorous swimming, or even walking, then…

Want your own pair? The shorts range are currently part of a Kickstarter project, but you’ll be able to get your hands on a pair by pledging $47 Canadian dollars (£26).
Fingers crossed Shaw doesn’t stop at shorts – we’d love to see an entire range of water-repellent clothing! What item of stay-dry clothing would you like to see the most? Leave a comment and let us know.
