Every now and again a gadget pops up that’s just as disturbing as it is brilliant, like the Boston Dynamics AlphaDog. The giant robotic monstrosity, also known as the LS3, is currently being trialled by the US Marine Corps. We’ve got a VIDEO of it action – it has to be seen to be believed!
Boston Dynamics, the company behind the AlphaDog, was bought by internet search giant Google last year. Does that mean we could see giant robotic dogs becoming part of everyday life in the future?
In the meantime, it’s the army that has their grubby mitts on the Boston Dynamics LS3. Just watching the colossal creation take to four spindly legs and run across a field is enough to give us the creeps.
The AlphaDog is capable of FOLLOWING a chip attached to one of the soldiers, effectively playing ‘heel’ as it goes. It’s large enough to pack in a whole host of equipment, and according to those testing it, the LS3 is capable of making its way through about 80% of the tougher terrain humans can manage.
It’s certainly not quiet, and it’s unlikely to ever sneak up on an unsuspecting enemy. But theLS3 has an amazing sense of balance, and it is a truly impressive creation.
Check out the LS3 Robot in somewhat terrifying action below!
