Kanye West treated the Wireless Festival crowd to another of his infamous rants during his bill-topping set in London’s Finsbury Park last night.
The rapper, 37, launched into a 25-minute diatribe against the media, his public image, consumerism, self-esteem and his frustrations around trying to break into the fashion worldduring an extended version of Runaway.
‘People be looking at me like I got a problem or something,’ he began. ‘Like I’m uncontrollable, that I do what I’m not supposed to do.’
Turning his attention to the media, he chided: ‘They control everyone with rumours and lies… they steal you from you and sell you back to you.’
To the crowd, Kanye asked: ‘How many people here think they’re awesome and have had people say they’re not their whole lives? What have I ever done other than believe in myself?’
With onlookers beginning to lose patience, boos as well as cheers ringing out from some sections as his speech topped the 20-minute mark, he reiterated his annoyance with his treatment from the fashion industry.
Echoing his much-publicised interview with Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, he complained: ‘They say they won’t negotiate with celebrities…like I’m a terrorist or stupid. I’m not going to name names, I’m not going to mention Nike or something.’
Encouraging the audience to follow their dreams, he cited his recent marriage to reality starKim Kardashian that such determination works: ‘I told Kim seven years ago: ‘I’m going to marry you,’ and I did – all the stuff I talk about, I can back it up.’
