ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Soon-to-be-released from jail, Remy Ma weighs in on the lack of females in Hip Hop + her plans to change that

Remy Ma: Female Rappers Are Letting Guys 'Take Over'

In just over a week, Remy Ma will be released from prison. As she nears the end of more than six years behind bars, the Bronx rapper spoke with Power 105.1's Angie Martinez about the changes she's made, her marriage and reentering the rap game.

She didn't undergo an "emphatic life change" in prison, but Remy has matured. "I grew up a lot, like I look at things differently," she told Martinez. "Looking back and looking at everything else, I was able to see a lot of things.

"I was really crazy," she admitted. "You get to see from [different perspectives] when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please…it's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear YOUR hair how you want."

Remy was convicted of assault and other charges in 2008 after shooting a friend in the stomach. While behind bars, she married boyfriend Papoose. Needless to say, her better half is more than fulfilling vows to stand by her "for better or worse." She's surprised by his level of commitment. "I'm still shocked," she said. "He's an official dude. He held me down better than my best FRIENDS that I grew up with and family members."

Regarding her CAREER, Remy talked about mending fences with Fat Joe and has a bunch ofrecord labels interested in signing her to a deal. "I didn't want to sign anything as major as a deal from here," she said. "A lot of things have changed since I've been gone, so I wanted to come HOME and do that."

One big switch that Remy has noticed is the deficit in FEMALE rap. With the exception of Nicki Minaj, there aren't many consistent acts on a main platform. "Nick has always been a supporter," noted Remy. "I love what she's done, she's done wonderful things for FEMALES but…I just wish there was more of them [female rappers]. I don't know what they're doing, they're letting these guys take over."

Upon her release, Remy plans to star in a reality show centered around her CAREER, she said.
