GADGET: Take to the skies with AirDog, a drone for your GoPro!

GoPro has dominated the action camera market for the past couple of years, offering an unbeatable mix of portability, robustness, quality and accessories. While we’re used to seeing stick-on car or cycle harnesses, the AirDog could be the ultimate GoPro accessory. It takes to the skies, so you can capture some truly awesome footage!

The AirDog is no regular drone. Its makers claim it’s the “world’s first auto-follow action sports drone”. What that means is that wherever you go, the little drone follows, climbing and dipping, swerving and following, however intense the action.

It has its own ‘AirLeash’, which offers up a signal for the quadcopter to follow. So strap on the AirLeash – or attach it to your bike, skateboard or even car – and AirDog will track it, pointing your GoPro at it, which should result in some unbeatable footage.

It has autonomous takeoff and landing, and returns to its takeoff spot when the battery runs low. So you don’t have to lift a finger when filming.

You configure the follow modes using a smartphone app, so you can capture different kinds of footage depending on what you’re doing.

Want one? The AirDog is currently a Kickstarter project. You’ll have to pledge $995 (£586) to get one. That’s not cheap, but it’s a good saving on the expected retail price of $1,500 (£884). It’s expected to ship in November.
