UK based Nigerian Afrobeats star Moelogo signs a record breaking label deal with Island Records becoming the first Afrobeats star to be tied to the international imprint.
With the rise of Afrobeats music in the UK and successful tours of big names like Wizkid,Davido,Psquare and R2bees, it was no surprise that the mainstream was starting to take notice of genre.
However rumours of the likes of Wizkid,P-square,D'banj and Iceprince close to international record deals never clearly materialised especially after the release of "oliver twist" by D'banj on Mercury records, expectations where that the Afrobeat stars were quickly going to be snapped up.
The focus was never on UK based artistes until the likes of Fuse Odg,Mista Silva and Moelogo joined the race creating music that UK fans of the popular genre could relate too. The last one year especially has seen the three artistes develop their style and grow their fan bases home and abroad making them interesting prospects and attracting a lot of interest from international labels. Now all three are officially tied to international labels Bayoz Muzik backed Moelogos announcement today completes the trilogy of UK artistes becoming credible Afrobeat stars putting to bed the age old belief that artistes need to return to Africa to be successful and respected.
Congrats to Moelogo, Bayoz Muzik, Edgie P , Ish and the entire team for this huge step as it signals a new dawn in the Afrobeats industry and now we can't wait for the first official single from "The Baddest" crooner on the UL charts.
