There are plenty of products and apps around for making your home smarter – from controlling smart lightbulbs to setting the heating temperature, but it looks like Apple is about to take things one step further with its upcoming iPhone, with integrated and autonomous controls for pretty much everything. A home that controls itself? With a little help from your iPhone, it could be the future!
We can’t wait for Apple’s WWDC developer conference this year, with a whole host of hotly anticipated gadgets on the way. We’re hoping for an Apple iPhone 6 phablet, a smartwatch, a new iOS 8 operating system and a new Retina MacBook Air, for starters, and there’s only a week to wait until we find out what Apple actually has in store.
WWDC isn’t just about gadgets though, with Apple often unveiling software updates and announcements, and according to the Financial Times the latest feature for the iPhonecould be autonomous software that controls your smart home.
That could mean lightbulbs that turn themselves on as soon as you walk into the room with a paired iPhone in your pocket, heating that could switch itself to a different temperature when you get close to the house, security systems that could arm themselves as soon as you step out of the door with your iPhone – the possibilities are almost limitless.
Granted, we’ve seen apps for controlling devices like the LG Smart Bulb before, but we love the idea of one app that could control everything. And if anybody is capable of making an app that anybody can use, it’s Apple.
According to the FT, it won’t just be Apple working on the project though, with other companies also said to be allowed to develop products for the iPhone’s smart home functionality, hopefully leading to more and more smart gadgets around the home. Maybe we’re not actually that far away from seeing smart toilets, sofas or sarcastic white goods!
May sure you head back on the 2nd June to see what exactly Apple has in store at WWDC.
Which smart devices would you like to be able to control with your iPhone? Leave a comment and let us know!
