It seems likely that Apple will opt for a bigger screen on iPhone 6, so it’s ironic that other manufacturers are queuing up to release mini-me versions of their flagship handsets – such as the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini and LG G2 Mini. HTC is the latest to jump on the bandwagon with the HTC One Mini 2, but can it live up to the super cool standards set by the HTC One (M8)? We take a look, but a possible change to camera specs may mean it gets off to a bad start…
Like the idea of a mini HTC One (M8)? If it’s the build quality and design that appeals, but in a smaller form factor, you may still be in luck with the HTC One Mini 2. According torenderings shown by @evleaks, it looks like the One Mini 2 will get the same minimalist style and ‘hewn from rock’ (OK, aluminium) build quality, helping it to go head to head with the Apple iPhone.
Sadly though, @evleak’s image also shows up a change in the camera layout, with the second snapper disappearing completely. That means it’s unlikely to be as good at judging depth of field as the HTC One (M8), also making it the poor relative when it comes to snapping creative bokeh shots.
The image does show a handy collection of colours for the HTC One Mini 2 though, including a smart dark brushed aluminium, sliver and gold (or champagne, if you like..).
Whether the renderings of the HTC One Mini 2 turn out to be the real deal remain to be seen though, so there’s always a chance that HTC’s upcoming baby will boast exactly the same features as its bigger sibling, albeit in a shiny package more suited to those with smaller hands.
What would you like to see from the HTC One Mini 2? Would you be happy to compromiseon features like the camera for a smarter, smaller form factor? Or do you want a full-fat mini-me version? Leave a comment below and let us know.
