Huawei has just revealed its latest flagship blower, the Huawei Ascend P7, an update to last year’s sleek and slim Ascend P6, only this time, it packs in 4G powers, a full HD five-inch screen, and an incredible eight-Megapixel front-facing camera, perfect for selfies, all in a 6.5mm chassis. Could this be the flagship phone to top the HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5s? Read on for all the details, straight from Paris!
We’re here in Paris at the La Maison de la Mutualite for the launch of Huawei’s Ascend P7, the latest flagship blower from the Chinese phone maker, and it looks like a corker. While the event kicked off with an assortment of slow violin playing and ballet-style chair acrobatics, the phone itself is a much faster affair. CEO Richard Yu took to the stage to reveal the Huawei Ascend P7 on a rising pyramid, and it packs in supreme camera powers, 4G skills, and Huawei’s own Emotion UI 2.3 on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. Emotion UI looks to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing launchers, and it even comes with over a hundred themes – even though it looks very iOS 7 inspired, including the company’s own take on Control Center.
Yu is proud to announce what’s on the back of the five-inch blower: you’ll find a 13-Megapixel rear shooter, powered by Sony’s fourth generation BSI sensor, and it also packs in a f/2.0 aperture that’s been made with low-light shooting in mind, along with fast firing too. On the front though, there’s a huge eight-Megapixel snapper that’s perfect for selfies. Last year’s P6 packed in a five-Megapixel front-facing snapper, and this year improves on the Megapixel count, as well as on the software front. Along with last year’s face-beautification mode, there’s also a Selfie-Panorama mode that will let you take a wide shot with your front facing cam, meaning you can take what Huawei is dubbing “groufies” – group selfies. With the rear camera, there’s also a software feature known as Voice Photo, which will let you take a snap along with a 10-second audio clip to upload to your favourite social media site – we’re not sure how much we’ll use that one though.
Huawei’s keen to emphasise one-thumb operation with the phone, as while phones fromother companies are going bigger and bigger, the Chinese company is keen to keep things slim, while also usable in just one hand. Helping to keep the phone thin, Huawei’s covered both the back and the front with Corning’s Gorilla Glass, along with a metallic finish on the sides inspired by top-end hardware. Under the hood, Huawei has homemade its own custom processor, and you’ll find a speedy quad-core 1.8GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, making it a nippy and fast phone in action. Somehow, Huawei has managed to cram in a large 2500mAh battery into its 6.5mm shell, and along with software smarts that are similar to Sony’s own Stamina mode, it’ll be able to stretch the last 10 percent of your battery life for 24 hours – perfect for long hauls away from home.
We’re waiting for word of an official UK price tag, but it’s set to arrive for 449 euros (£368) in early June in blue-black, white, and pink hues, making it an attractive alternative to many of the top end smartphones out at the moment – we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the latest details as soon as we hear it. We’ll also be getting our hands on one soon, so stay tuned for our full thoughts on the Huawei Ascend P7.
What do you think of Huawei’s latest blower? Is it the iPhone 5s or Samsung Galaxy S5 killer you’ve been waiting for, or is it too much of the same? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
