GADGET: A bright idea: Say hello to the bendable, water-resistant lighting!

Every now and again we see some really cool ideas on Kickstarter (such as one of the world’s smallest playable guitars!), and Blinklums definitely falls into that category. A flat, thin, and very bendable strip capable of lighting up your room, Blinklums definitely sounds like it could have a lot more potential than a simple light bulb, and it looks pretty cool to boot.

Blinklums is currently attempting to raise £9,000 on Kickstarter, and with 14 days left is already up to £8,628.

A highly flexible strip of light, the panels don’t generate any sort of heat, are water-resistant and are incredibly thin. They also look good, thanks to the choice of different colours, with white, blue, green, and red listed on the concept’s Kickstarter page. ‘Custom’ is also there too though, so presumably the sky is your limit…

Start adding them together, or even leaving them around your house – flat on the desk as a day-glow mouse pad, on the wall as art, bent into a cylinder shape to act as a more regular lamp, they’ll certainly stand out whatever you do with them. You could even buy a bigger strip and cover your entire desk.

There are plenty of other impressive lighting options out there, but the guys behind Blinklums think they have the edge, adding: “We have tweaked its chemical formulation and complexmanufacturing process, which has enhanced its luminance and optimised its longevity. We have made it smart by adding a custom processor, and perfect the art of current flow and stabilised its frequency to enhance Blinklums life cycle.” So a smarter, brighter, longer-lasting flexible light? Sounds pretty good to us.

If you want to get on board the Blinklums project, £65 will get you a 29.7×42cm Blinklums sheet, complete with “adapter, converter and controller”. Want a larger sheet to do something more creative? Pledge £100 or more and you’ll get a 59.4×42cm sheet, with a load of other deals (including multi packs and even bigger lighting sheets) also available.

As to what you can actually do with your Blinklums light when you get it? It’s time to get creative!
