Pharrell Williams has revealed that his Number One single 'Happy' was originally recorded by Cee Lo Green.
Speaking to radio DJ Howard Stern - via The Guardian - the artist commented that Green's version was vetoed by "the powers that be" and never released. Williams added that he believes the version Green recorded was better than his own.
"He sounded amazing on it," he said. "I mean, he burns my version! But the... how do I say this diplomatically?... The powers that be, at the time, did not see it fit for him. Some folks on his team just felt that the priority should be on [Cee Lo's] album at the time ['Magic Moment' in 2012], so they elected not to do that song."

Since its release at the end of last year, 'Happy' has sold 1.3 million copies in the UK. It features on the soundtrack to the film Despicable Me 2 as well as Williams' second solo album, 'Girl'.
Williams recently asked fans around the world to help him finish his new book, Inspiration. The book has no release date but will be made available after fans have helped fill in the gaps via this website. Fans who guess the missing words correctly will receive a credit
in the final book when it is published.

As well as English, speakers of French, German, Spanish and Italian can also get involved in the project. Proceeds from the sale of Inspiration will go towards From One Hand to AnOTHER, a nonprofit charity founded by Pharrell that seeks to help at-risk youths in American communities.
Williams was recently named alongside Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus on Time magazine's 'Most Influential' list. The trio were the only musicians who featured with Justin Timberlake penning a heartfelt tribute to the producer and singer as part of his inclusion.
