Lagos| Nigeria, 28 May 2014: MTV Base has revealed the nominees for Best International Act at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2014. The five nominees competing in the category include hip hop star Drake (Canada), R&B goddess Beyoncé (USA), R&B stunner Rihanna(Barbados), singer songwriter Pharrell (USA) and pop phenomenon Miley Cyrus (USA).
The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) KwaZulu-Natal takes place at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), on Saturday 7 June and will be broadcast around the world on MTV, MTV Base, BET International and affiliate stations. The 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards is brought to you by KwaZulu-Natal Province and supported by Absolut and the City of Durban. South Africa Tourism is also a key partner to the awards.
The winners of Best International Act will be revealed during the live telecast of MAMA 2014 on 7 June at the ICC, Durban. To vote for the winner of Best International Act, go to www.mtvbase.com.
Stand-up comedian and TV sensation, Marlon Wayans will host the awards, while the glittering performer line-up includes a heady mix of African and international talent including Trey Songz, Miguel, French Montana, Davido, Flavour, Tiwa Savage, Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Oskido, Professor and many others.
Nominees for this year’s music categories, include 2Face, Burna Boy, Chidinma, Clarence Peters, Danny K, Davido, Diamond, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Efya, Fally Ipupa, Flavour, Fuse ODG, Ice Prince, KCEE, Mafikizolo, Olamide, P Square, Professor, Phyno, R2bees, Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage, Uhuru, Wizkid, Zakes Bantwini among many other local and international acts.
In this year’s newly introduced lifestyle award categories, Chimamanda Adiche, OmotolaJalade Ekeinde, Trevor Noah, Lupita Nyong’o and Yaya Toure are nominated for Personality of the Year. Clarence Peters, Leti Arts, Rasty and Anisa Mpungwe are nominated in Transform Today by Absolut.
With hundreds of thousands of votes already cast, public voting for 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards continues online at www.mtvbase.com until midnight on 4 June 2014. The winners of the MTV Base Leadership Award and Best Video are chosen exclusively by MTV Base. Voting for Song of the Year continues up until the show on 7 June.
Celebrating musicians and achievers who have made the most impact on African youth culture throughout the year, MAMA 2014 will, for the first time ever, premiere LIVE across Africa on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130) at 21:00 CAT.
