GADGET: Is a super-zoom Samsung Galaxy S5 on the way?

If you’re one for using your phone as your main point and shoot, this could be the next-gen blower for you. A new leaked image suggests that Samsung’s planing a sequel to last year’sGalaxy S4 Zoom, only it’s set to pack in Galaxy S5-guts, an improved design and a faux-leather back – is this the Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom?

PhoneArena has spotted what looks to be the slimmed-down successor to last year’s Galaxy S4 zoom, which trades away the distinctive camera-shaped design for something slimmer that can easily slip into your pocket. The leaked image shows that the upcoming handset no longer has a protruding grip or lens attached to it: instead, there’s now a smooth back that the lens can hide into, and it’s been given the faux-leather treatment that Samsung’s grown fond of recently (some would say a little too much so).

Along with the slimmer look, the purported Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom has also been given a boost in the specs department: according to the tipster, it’s set to arrive with a 20-Megapixel sensor and a 10x zoom, along with a 4.4-44mm with an f3.3-6.7 aperture 24 mm lens, andintegrated NFC. It’s also set to be powered by a 6-core Exynos 5 CPU along with 2GB ofRAM and Android 4.4.2 KitKat, while there’s a 4.8-inch 720p HD display on top.

We’re still waiting for the retail release of the Galaxy S5, which is set to arrive on 11 April, and while there’s no official word on a launch of the S5 Zoom, you can expect it to follow Samsung’s latest flagship shortly after – we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the latest as soon as we hear it.

Do you fancy a super-zoom Galaxy S5, or will you be sticking with the regular version instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
