Apple’s been rumoured to be working on its own big screen Apple TV for some time now, but we’ve yet to see anything come out of Cupertino. With the likes of Amazon’s Fire TV now on the rise, it looks like it’s time for Apple to strike – and there could be a 65-inch telly on the way. Fancy a huge Apple TV for your living room that would dwarf the iMac?
A new report from the Korea Herald suggests that Apple is currently testing 65-inch OLED panels, and these could be the huge displays that will make it into its big-screen Apple TV. According to the report, a currently unnamed local display maker is making sample displays for Apple’s upcoming TV product, which is expected to hit mass production next year. An analyst at Seoul-based IBK Securities says that the company is making “65-inch organic light-emitting diode sample panels” in collaboration with the Cupertino-based giant, although the panel might not make it to the final product, as it’s still in testing. Still, we’d love to see anOLED-based TV product, which just like on phones, could help make the TV extremely slim, bright and retain a wide field of view with enormous dynamic contrast ratios.
