A 22-year-old South Carolina woman is dead after a 6-year-old sitting behind her in a car shot her with a gun he found on the floorboard of the backseat.
Alexandra Anita Santos, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, was taken to Baptist Medical Center in Easley where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Coroner Kandy Kelly said Santos died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
FOX Carolina spoke exclusively to the family of Santos. Her mother, Cynthia Yergeau, said the woman who was with Santos called her to tell her the dreaded news. Yergeau said the woman told her, though, that Santos’ ex-boyfriend was responsible for her death.
“You give any kind of access to a firearm six-year-old child, somebody needs to be responsible,” said Yergeau. “Take responsibility, own up to what your kids did,” she said.
Yergeau said she is “angry” such an accusation was leveled against that ex-boyfriend.
The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Santos’ family at this time.
