Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been on store shelves since November, and now it’s time for its first major update: the upcoming v1.70 release brings a host of new features such as software pre-loading but the biggest addition is ShareFactory, a brand new app that lets you edit your best brag clips and upload them to Facebook. Ready to make your greatest gaming masterpiece?
Sony first announced its major update for the PS4 last month at the Game Developers Conference, but it didn’t give away too many details. Now the gaming giant is giving a sneak peak of the update by mentioning a few brand new features that will be arriving soon. First up is ShareFactory, a video editor application that lets you stitch together gameplay footage that you can customise with text, transitions, filters and themes. You can also personalise your videos with stickers and audio tracks, as well add your own video commentary with picture-in-picture capability thanks to the PlayStation Camera.
You can also import your own original music to use as a custom soundtrack, and you can even share your videos straight to Facebook, or export them to an external USB drive. The update will also let you switch off HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) on the console itself, so you can capture video directly from the HDMI output with your own gear – perfect for budding YouTube gaming fans.
The second major addition that Sony has revealed so far is an auto-download feature, will will let you pre-download select pre-ordered games up to a several days before release, letting you get straight into the game on launch day – just like PC gamers who have enjoyed a similar feature on Valve’s Steam store. There’s more features and additions on the way with the new update for the PS4 – stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to keep you updated with the latest details as soon as we hear them.
