GADGET: Samsung Galaxy K Zoom: 20.7-Megapixel Android supershooter unleashed!

Last year, along with the Samsung Galaxy S4, the South Korean phone giant released an Android blower that aimed to blur the line between phone and camera, and the result was the middling Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, which was a jack of both trades but master of neither. Now Samsung is trying the formula once again with its brand new Galaxy K Zoom smartphone, a souped up version which aims to replace the point and shoot in your pocket thanks to its incredible 20.7-Megapixel snapper and selfie skills. Nokia had better watch out – this could be the cameraphone you’ve been waiting for. Read on for all the details!

We previously spotted a camera-focused Samsung blower earlier this month, but now Samsung has taken the wraps off its latest phone and it’s not the Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom we were expecting. Instead, the Galaxy K Zoom as it’s known, packs in even better camera skills than its spiritual predecessor, and boasts a range of software smarts to help you get the best snaps.

Somehow, Samsung has managed to pack in a retractable 10x zoom lens, 20.7-Megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and a dedicated shutter button into the body of a smartphone, and while it’s rather thick and measures up 20.2mm (twice that of the Galaxy S5), it’s still an impressive feat – and you won’t have the large bump on the back like Nokia’s Lumia 1020thanks to the retractable lens. There’s also a xenon flash and AF assist LED packed into the back, while on the front, you’ll find a two-Megapixel front-facing snapper too. Along with the beefy camera hardware, Samsung has stuffed in a 4.8-inch, 720p Super AMOLED display, and it’s powered by a hexa-core processor and comes packing Android 4.4 KitKat software on top too, plus there’s 2GB of RAM to play with and 8GB of expandable internal storage.

If you want to record video, Samsung has you covered too: the K Zoom packs in 1080p video skills, up to 60 frames per second, plus there’s a handy slo-motion video mode as well. Samsung has even thrown in optical image stabilisation too, meaning you won’t snap any jittery shots, while if you prefer to shoot in manual, there’s full controls for you to do just that. Samsung has also packed in a Pro Suggest mode, which will offer you five different scene modes every time you press in the dedicated shutter button, and there’s even a feature known as Selfie Alarm, which helps you take the best selfie possible: you simply set up the shot on the camera, flip the K Zoom around, and it’ll then beep and snap three photos for you to pick and choose.

Samsung’s currently keeping mum on the availability and pricing of the Galaxy K Zoom, but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the latest as soon as we hear it – we’re sure many of you cameraphone fans would love to get your hands on this, and it could be one of the first smart snappers to truly rival Nokia’s incredible Lumia 1020.

What do you think of Samsung’s Galaxy K Zoom? Could this be your next cameraphone, or are you sticking with Nokia’s PureView snappers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
