Motorola’s super smart Moto X phone is currently the only phone to pack in always-listening voice powers, but it looks like that could soon change: according to Android Police, you could soon be barking out commands throughout Android on your phone, no matter where you are in the OS with a simple “OK Google Now” command. Fancy that on your own Android blower? Read on for all the details!
According to Android Police’s sources, Google is trying out a new “OK Google everywhere” feature, that just like with the Moto X, will always be listening and will respond only to your voice – making it easy for hands-free operation of your phone. It’s also capable of seeing what you’re running on your phone too, such as if you’re browsing photos, you could simply tell your phone to “share this photo” and it’ll comply.
That might not be the only change that Google has up its sleeve for Android, as there could be a new navigation bar on the way that’ll swap the home button for a “Google” button instead, along with a new multitasking button known as “Recents”. Hitting the “Google” button would fire up search without having to speak, while the “Recents” key will take you back to your recently used apps and homescreen, making this one of the most major changes to the Android interface since Ice Cream Sandwich.
Will we see these features on the way soon though? Android Police reckons that at least some of these new additions will be on the way to future versions of Android, but they may only show up on phones running Google’s own launcher – such as Nexus or Google Play phones – as third-party manufacturers like Samsung or Sony would rather load up their own software and skin, which may not feature the same skills. Still, we’ve got plenty of time until Google’s I/O conference in June, and we could see these new features pop up on stage soon – we’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we hear it.
What do you think of Google’s future Android plans? Do you fancy an always-listeningGoogle phone, or would you rather keep things how they are? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
