GADGET: The MacBook Air gets a speed boost - and a price cut!

Apple has just refreshed its range of MacBook Air laptops, giving each one a slight speed increase, but that’s not all: a price cut has also hit the slimline machines, making them even more attractive than before – there’s still no sign of a Retina version on the way though. Read on for all the details!

Apple has updated its latest 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models, giving each one a slight speed boost in the processing department. Across the board, you’ll find a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz packed in, up from the 1.3GHz processor that was in the last model – and there’s also even faster build-to-order configurations available too, as you can kit out your own MacBook Air with a 1.7GHz Core i7 processor too. The rest of the specs remain the same, as you’ll find graphics courtesy of Intel’s built-in HD Graphics 5000, plus 4GB of RAM remains standard across each model.

The Cupertino giant has also dropped the price of each model, as the base 11-inch 128GB MacBook Air will now run you £749 instead of £849, while you can double your storage for £899, instead of £1,029. If you prefer the larger 13-inch model, you can grab the 128GB model for £849, down from £949, while the 256GB model is now £999 instead of £1,129 – much better pricing for a slightly faster laptop.

Aside from the pricing and processor updates, everything remains the same, meaning you won’t receive the speedier Thunderbolt 2 ports that are found on the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro models, but you’ll still be treated to the same decent performance and incredible battery life that the MacBook Airs are known for. The price cut could suggest that there are even newer models on the way, and with Apple’s WWDC coming up, we could see some Retina-infused MacBook Airs pop up on stage in June – we’ll have to wait and see though, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we hear the news.

What do you think of the MacBook Air update? Were you expecting more, or do you think you’ll be getting even more bang for your buck? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
