Just a couple of years ago we were bowled over by the stunning clarity of Full HD screens on smartphones, but manufacturers are already selling panels even sharper. Panels so sharp you can practically shave with them. Such as the amazing Oppo Find 7, with its Quad HD display. Not wanting to fall behind, South Korean giant LG is also working on a Quad HD smartphone in the form of the LG G3, and it looks set to make an appearance as soon as this summer.
Taking on other high-end handsets like the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG G3 will have to be a cracker if LG wants to succeed. LG already has a firm base to start with, with the existing LG G2 more than capable of holding its own against rivals.
And that display should definitely help its predecessor, with LG cramming in a jaw-dropping2,560×1,440 pixels – certainly more than your eyes can distinguish from the typical foot or so away – and resulting in text and graphics that should look simply gorgeous.
Spotted by TheDroidGuy in the fineprint of the website for Sprint, one of America’s biggestmobile networks, with a rumoured size of 5.5 inches, and showing off 530 pixels per inch, the LG G3’s screen should be capable of showing actual printed magazines how it’s done – not bad for a smartphone!
Whether the screen quality will prove any better than Samsung’s Galaxy S5, or even LG’s own G2 – which boasts a Full HD 5.2-inch display – remains to be seen. Let’s face it, images don’t exactly look pixelated as it stands, and we certainly don’t have any complaints about how good the Gadget Show looks on the current crop of high-end blowers. Still, it’s great to see another manufacturer pushing the boundaries, so long as battery life doesn’t take a hit. Rumoured to launch at some point this summer, there’s currently no word on pricing or other specs for the LG G3, but watch this space!
