GADGET: Lenovo's £100 iPad rival boasts speakers that rock your world

Much as we love Apple’s iPad Air, it’s difficult to justify coughing up the extra cash over Android-based rivals like the Google Nexus range, unless you just have to have the bigger screen. But there are even cheaper options than that too: Lenovo has now joined the fray as well, updating its bargain-basement Tab range and introducing Dolby speakers for the first time. The ideal tablet for catching up with The Gadget Show? It could well be!

With prices starting at just £100, Lenovo’s new tablet range could clean up in the gadget bargain bins at the supermarket, especially if it offers the same quality we’ve come to expect from the manufacturer’s excellent laptop range.

Along with the pocket-friendly price, the new tablets should be a natural choice for watching catch up TV, with all models featuring speakers made by world-renowned audio specialist Dolby. If they can reproduce the same sort of sound quality we’ve come to expect from Dolby, it could help to make the Lenovo Tab range unbeatable for the money.

There’s plenty of choice, too, with the Tab range offering 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch models in the form of the snappily titled Lenovo Tab A7-30, Tab A8 and Tab A10. There’s also the Tab A7-50, a higher spec version of the A7-30 which packs in a HD screen.

Each model also gets a quad-core processor to help keep the Android OS ticking over at speed, although there’s currently no word on other tech specs. With the Lenovo Tab A7-30 costing just £100, and prices rising to £170 for the 10-inch Tab A10, there’s a lot to get excited about. Set to ship in the second quarter of this year, stay tuned for more details and exact launch dates.
