GADGET: Apple’s iWatch is already in production - will we see it at WWDC?

Wearables are in this year, and it looks like Apple’s finally joining the party with a smartwatch of its own, as it’s much-rumoured iWatch is reportedly in production already! Does this mean we could be seeing it pop up at this year’s WWDC? Read on for all the details!

According to the Taiwan-based China Times, and translated by G4Games, Apple’s suppliershave already started production of Apple’s first smart wearable in limited quantities. The newspaper refers to sources in Apple’s supply chain in Asia, who claim that part of the production includes advanced system-in-a-package modules which can contain a processor,DRAM and flash memory – all components that could be used for a smartwatch.

The newspaper’s sources say that manufacturers will ship out between two to three million iWatches in the next few months ahead of its reported autumn launch, a number that’s aimed to soar to between 14 and 15 million watches by the end of September – that’s a lot of iWatches set to arrive in time for its launch, and if the China Times’ figures are bang on, it means that Apple is very, very confident in its wearable computer.

Apple is facing stiff competition in the smartwatch race thanks to Google’s upcomingAndroid Wear initiative, which has backing from the likes of LG and Motorola, while Samsung is still pushing hard with its Gear 2 smartwatch. With Apple’s WWDC coming up, the Cupertino-based giant could reveal its upcoming watch at its annual conference – we’ll be sure to bring you the latest news as soon as we hear it.

What do you think of Apple’s iWatch plans? Do you think it’ll be the next big wearable, or are you not a fan of having a computer on your wrist? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
