Born into Nigeria's Ransome-Kuti family of Abeokuta, Kuboye graduated from the University of Sheffield as a qualified and skilful dental surgeon.
She was also known as a talented singer. In 1978 she married jazz musician Tunde Kuboye and together in Lagos they opened Jazz 38.
By night Jazz 38 functioned as a music club for live musicians, mostly headlined by Kuboye's own band, The Extended Family Band.
By day Jazz 38 functioned as the city's Centre For The Arts, "promoting internationalism through musical and youth development programmes" with a focus on the rights and welfare of the city's youth.
During the 80s and early 90s Kuboye did several tours around the world with husband Tunde, their music described in the Wall Street Journal as "being more inventive than most other musicians anywhere". Sadly, Kuboye died suddenly in 1997, leaving behind three children
