If you know me personally, you would know that I am totally in fond of indigenous rap or rap songs interpreted in languages I don't understand a word from.
Strange huh? Well we are all weird in a way. :-)
So you can imagine how positively surprised I was, when I heard Olamide's latest collaboration with Lynxxx and Ajebutter 22: JOGODO I like words that sounds strange and so does Jogodo.
I am still learning Yoruba so of course I didn't really know what it meant but I could feel that it was all about fun.
Even the art representing the track shows 2 funny personalities and the beat also reminds me of instrumentals used at certain moments in films to alert the audience that something funny is about to happen.
I have to confess that with Jogodo I had to do more homework than usual.
I suddenly found out that some of my buddies that pretended to be "Yoruba" were not even able to explain the song to me. #WhatAShame lmao
At least One friend was able to explain to me the meaning of my favourite rhymes and Google Translate also helped to translate the song. S/O to my friend David for the help.
Back to the matter, I couldn't stop laughing when I was done with this task.
Please find below my favourite rhymes from the 3 artists before I knew its meaning. lmao
Olamide:
Gbogbo weekend ni weekend me. Shayo ti wa ninu system me. I don't give a F*.
Boya Muslim or Christian ni. Nike ni, O wicked me. Wan bi lo bi Kemi. Ti n ba ra e mu. Wa ro bo ya trailer ko lu e ni
Translation:
Every weekend is my weekend. Alcohol in my System. I don't give a F* if She's a
Muslim or Christian. Nike You were wicked to me, ask Kemi. If I catch you, you will feel like a Lorry hit you.
Olamide why?? Is this the aftermath of the Valentine's Day celebrations? Calm down and
leave the Lorry out of this business! I already feel sorry for the lady concerned. :-)
Lynxxx:
Olofofo, awon Boys ti Jogodo. Collect money from Ibadan, Tomorrow na sokoto.
She don see Swagga, she wants Prada. Dey form maga. Omo her Father.
Translation:
Gossipers, These boys collect Money from Ibadan and then Sokoto.
She sees my swag now she wants me to buy her a Prada bag. Her father mehnnn.
Hahahah Lynxxx why/ What has she done? :-D
I guess its because she wanted Prada for Val's day!! At least now she knows that she has
to ask her father for it. :-) You should hide the swag as well.
Ajebutter 22:
Iwo to ni Experience, To pe ra e ni Virgin. Obo E to ni Bush Ati edges Bi Ore Benson.
Translation:
You have sexual experience but still claim to be a virgin.
Your *Private Part* has bushes and Edges like a friend of BENSON. (ref: to BENSON & EDGES)
Hahahahha, Badman Butter, please in which corner do you look for your girls?
This sounds like a proper diss. I also feel sorry for this girl.
Nevertheless, the outcome of this collaboration is more than successful.
All we need is a video that will showcase the positive and fun vibe present in the song.
As Olamide said: The Egyptian baby is worried because his Daddy is a Mummy.
I will leave the interpretation of that verse to you. Lmao
