ALBUM REVIEW: J. Holiday – Guilty Conscience + (Factory78 interview)

If you’re looking for an R&B album to purchase this first quarter of 2014, you should be looking at the new album by J. Holiday entitled ‘Guilty Conscience’.

We know it’s been awhile since J.Holiday released new material and fans including myself wondered if he would ever return to give us some more of that smooth, luscious vocals of his.

J. Holiday gained instant success with the single ‘Bed’ in 2007, taken from the platinum selling album ‘Back Of My Lac’ and followed through with the gold selling sophomore album ‘Round 2′ in 2009. Fast forward 5yrs, his very own indie label – Holiday Music Group and we have ‘Guilty Conscience’, an album that embodies an R&B topical approach.

Produced by Lil Ronnie, Jerry Wonda and few others, ‘Guilty Conscience’ tells the story having your cake and eating it and then not knowing what you have until you lose it.

It all starts strongly with ‘Incredible’ as Holiday expresses his feelings to his woman. ‘Thinking About You’ provides that disco vibe and ‘Cloud 9′ sets the tone formidnight rendezvous as Holiday tells her what his intentions are for later. Holiday puts words in action in ‘After We….’ but could be mistaken for Chris Brown. He gets paranoid over his past exploits and now his ‘Guilty Conscious’ is playing tricks on him, he loses track with ‘Ms. Get Around’ and takes a weak ‘Wrong Turn‘. Holiday finds himself with a beautiful laced side chic and although they have an understanding she wants more and decides to become a ‘Home Wrecker’. Realising his mistakes and how ‘Dumb’ he’s been, Holiday wants his girl to‘Come Back Home’ while asking love ‘Where Are You Now?’. Love answers and rekindles his relationship and Holiday feels like ‘Heaven’

‘Guilty Conscience’ is a strong, refreshing and creative return for J. Holiday.

You would’ve probably loved him to put you to bed but you certainly can’t sleep on this one.

Stand Out Tracks: Incredible, After We…, Where Are You Now, Thinking About You, Heaven
