There are two new kids on the block to watch out for in 2012’s Afrobeats music landscape. Shimzie and Lil Opy - real names Michael and Jonathan Olorunfemi - are brothers who are set to take Africa and Europe by storm with their new sensational style of Afrobeats music.
Shimzie
is one of the best aspiring young musicians in the burgeoning UK
Afrobeats scene. From lyrical wordplay to conscious rhymes, Shimzie can
touch any production with an alternative rhythmic flow, giving him a
status of an incomparable artist. Along with his younger brother Lil Opy, he has performed alongside the likes of Tinie Tempah, May7ven and Professor Green and left crowds screaming for more.
With confidence and creativity in bounds, 13-year old Lil Opy
has wowed audiences with his performance prowess and is consistently
proving that a new generation of young Nigerian artists are coming
through with a BANG. His first appearance was on the duo’s breakout
single titled “Broken Love” which was featured on Not Just OK back in February 2012 as well as on a plethora of African music blogs.
With the release of their debut mixtape Children Of Africa,
the duo are set to stamp their place on the Afrobeats scene with the
energetic, fast-paced record that is jam-packed with upbeat and funky
sounds for all audiences to dance to and relate with too. Even though a
vast majority of their fan base are teenagers and young adults, Shimzie and Lil Opy
are also pushing the boundaries of their music to relate to the older
listeners, and for sure the duo’s new music delivers on all fronts
across the board - definitely ones to watch out for in the future.
