Tor Cesay - Jah Jah City (Listen) Published by DjLanre

Grafting her own pathway to musical success, homegrown UK talent, Tor Cesay is flipping the rap game on its head with her melodic flow and fiery feminine ways. And that’s no hype talk.

You may have been lucky enough to witness Tor spitting over the BBC Concert Orchestra at Urban Classic, or see her performance at Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing Stage. Perhaps you recognize her vocals from the live performance at the Olympics 2012 winner’s announcement viewed by one billion people?

Breaking from the confines of the tight-knit UK hip hop underground. Supporters include Zane Lowe (Radio 1), Twin B (1Xtra), Dynamite MC (Kiss 100), Dan Greenpeace (Galaxy), Gilles Peterson (Radio 1) and MP Steven Hepburn.

Recording a live set at Maida Vale for Radio 1 saw Tor take a solid spot on the homepage as "The rising star". The compilation 'Beatz International' released January 2009 is a fine introduction to the MC before her debut album drops in 2011.

Ms Dynamite's 'When I fall in Love', Soundbwoy Ent's 'Never Wanna say', and features with Mongrel (Reverend and the Makers, Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles) don’t even scratch the surface of Tor's previous collaborations. Tor has featured alongside chart topping Estelle on Blak Twang’s ‘Nu Nuh’ and is currently working with producers such as Rashad Smith (Lauren Hill, Biggie, Erykah Badu, Nas), and UK super producer, DJ Mentat (FAQ’s, Roots Manuva, Skinnyman).

Compilation project, ‘Beatz International’ was successfully released in Japan and in the UK. Mix CD - ‘Different Place’- released in December 2010 and mixed by Show N Prove (Tinchy Styder, Roll Deep, J2K), saw Tor gearing up for the much anticipated album. This March will see Tor drop a follow up with ‘Lose My Cool’ mixtape mixed by DJ Destruction (Redman, Adam F, De La Soul), serving as a fantastic re- introduction and taster before the debut album, dominantly produced by Jamal Hadaway (Chasing Pluto, Jay Sean, Labrinth), along with DJ Mentat and Show N Prove.

Tor is currently in New York recording a collaboration album with Rashad Smith, stepping up the pace with its world class production, It’s time to catch Tor while you can!
